Mariia joined the group in January 2019 as a PhD student, contributing her expertise to a project focused on exploring novel materials, particularly metamaterials, for applications in quantum metrology and gravitational wave detection techniques.

Her research centers on the development of a new type of coating composed of nanometer-scale particles arranged in a periodic order, with specific size and shape, to achieve desirable optical properties such as high reflectivity, transmission, absorption, or polarization dependency.

In particular, Mariia’s project aims to develop a high-reflectivity single-layer metasurface coating made from silicon cylindrical nanoparticles. Theoretical simulations have shown no major obstacles in realizing this structure, and initial experimental results have demonstrated a good match with the predicted coating behavior.
