Tim joined the group in 2020 as a bachelor student. In his thesis he worked on designing and characterising a new SHG (Second Harmonic Generation) cavity with enhanced conversion efficiency. Afterwards he remained in the group as a student assistant, working on various smaller projects. In 2023, he started his Master’s thesis project, in which he tested and characterised our dilution refrigerator millikelvin-cryostat and prepared it for future use in a planned CQNC implementation.

After submitting his Master’s thesis in 2024, he became a PhD student in the group. His intermediate goal is to build a reliable setup for interfacing an optomechanical cavity inside the dilution refrigerator with components outside. A particular challenge in this is the vibrational noise caused by either seismic motion of the floor or the cryostat’s pulse tube refrigerator. Sufficiently reducing the impact of both sources will require extensive modifications to our existing setup. His long-term goal is to use the aforementioned optomechanical setup to demonstrate CQNC in collaboration with other group members.
